With so much renewed interest around Mastodon, it's hard to look past the push (doesn't everything come full circle?) toward decentralization of Internet based services and the ActivityPub protocol. And now with the API changes to Twitter and Reddit, it feels like there's a movement back to the days of the BBS in a sense.
I don't know what specifically this would look like, but support for ActivityPub and ability to integrate with Mastodon via the SSH/Telnet and web interfaces would be pretty cool and maybe a good place to start? How about the ability to use Synchronet as a Mastodon server instance and get all of the BBS goodness that Sync offers along with the ability to have our own corner of the "Fediverse?"
Probably should have thought this through in more detail, but wanted to get the idea out there to see if there's any interest, other ideas, or reasons why this is a dumb idea!
Building Synchronet on Ubuntu 20.04 using the latest development branch of Synchronet as of 3/22/22. The process is failing as follows:
Linking gcc.linux.x64.lib.release/libwebsrvr.so Linking gcc.linux.x64.exe.release/sbbs /usr/bin/ld: gcc.linux.x64.lib.release/libwebsrvr.so: undefined reference to `strlcpy' collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [GNUmakefile:151: gcc.linux.x64.exe.release/sbbs] Error 1
I've tried doing a "make clean" prior to running "make RELEASE=1 symlinks setcap" and still the same result.
I did not initially. I just ran that and then the compile worked perfectly. Thank you!

This is awesome. I was worried that bbsfiles were lost to the ages with Doug's passing. Many thanks to MRO for the legwork and DM for the hosting.
Getting an error in the node event log each hour when the WARPOLL event runs:

My warcommon.js matches the latest version that is checked in.
